Amanda Borden
Amanda Borden was born on May 10, 1977 in Cincinnati, Ohio. She began gymnastics at the age of seven, training with Mary Lee Tracy at Cincinnati Gymnastics Academy. Borden spent six years on the U.S. Women's National Team (1990, 1992-1997), competing in the 1993 and 1994 World Championships. Her contributions on two world championship teams and numerous international assignments, helped build the USA's reputation leading to the 1996 Olympics. Borden was named team captain of the Magnificent Seven because she deemed important leadership qualities that would take the team far. At the Olympics, she performed an original skill, a twisting straddle pike jump on the balance beam, which is named after her in the gymnastics code of points.
After the Olympics, Borden graduated summa cum laude from Arizona State University with a degree in early childhood education. In 2006, she married Brad Cochran, and the couple currently owns Gold Medal Gymnastics in Tempe, Arizona. In 2007, Borden had a daughter named Kennedy. She also serves as a commentator on CBS Sports, Fox Sports, Turner Broadcasting, and ESPN for gymnastics and cheerleading events.
